Vintage Handcarved Mexican Onyx stepped pyramid, inspired by Mesoamerican temple architecture. Acquired as part of a personal collection from a retired surfer who lived in Mexico during the 1980s. Excellent vintage condition. These temples pieces from this time period are difficult to find in this condition due to the frequent damage of the stepped faces. Pink Onyx is also more sought after and harder to find from this period than the green or cream varieties. Mexican onyx is actually a calcite and so it is soft and easy to facture and chip over time. These temples were handcarved out of seperate slabs that were then joined together. Tbe underside image shows the original glue — this is not repair— and the quality of the source material.
