Produktdetails

Pre-Columbian Maya pottery urn fragment depicting a deity head, Guatemala, Late Classic Period, ca. 600–900 CE. This striking example features a highly stylized visage with large, protruding eyes, a prominent nose, and a broad mouth, framed by a ridged headdress. The exaggerated facial features and expressive modeling are characteristic of Maya representations of supernatural or divine figures, likely once adorning a ceremonial urn. The surface shows consistent burial wear with areas of encrustation and mineral deposits, supporting its age. Minor losses and abrasions are present, as expected for a fragment of this type, but the overall form and detail remain strong. Mounted on a custom stand for display. Provenance: Ex Vogt Auction, TX; Ex Douglas Rhodenbaugh Estate, Austin, Texas.
