I want viewers to observe not only the nods to Victorian and revival, but also the natural fiber used to create this artwork. Needlepoint Art is symbolic of cozy, worn, well-lived decor. As such, our woman of the hour might have lived a life of luxury in her youth, and retired peacefully to the French countryside. Both elements will be represented. Petit point, a fine form of needlepoint using small, precise stitches, became highly fashionable in the 18th and 19th centuries. Often modeled after grand paintings of the Rococo era, these works were prized by middle-class households as a way to emulate the refined, decorative arts popular among the aristocracy.
