This portrait depicts Robert Moffat (1795–1883), a prominent Scottish missionary to South Africa.The image is a print produced by George Baxter in 1843, known as a "Baxter print" which utilized oil colors.Moffat was a significant figure in 19th-century missionary movements and translated the Bible into the Tswana language.He was also the father-in-law of the famous explorer David Livingstone.
