Offered for your consideration is a piece of the floor from the Crawfordsville, Indiana YMCA where the first basketball game in Indiana was purported to have been played on March 16th, 1894. The floor pieces were preserved by Hook's Drugs, Inc. (which would later become CVS Pharmacies) for the Indiana Basketball Hall Of Fame. While for the better part of a century the Crawfordsville YMCA game was thought to be the site of the first game in the state, some evidence has come to light in recent years that challenges the claim. The original claim originated with the local newspaper, Crawfordsville Daily Journal, featuring an article about the game in their March 17th, 1894 edition. I'm not sure where it currently stands as to whether the claim has since been proven otherwise, although many Indiana media sources were still citing as the first Indiana game as late as 2016.
