During and immediately following World War II, Hazel-Atlas began aggressively marketing "fired-on" ceramic color glazes onto their white Platonite glass bodies. The Process: A bright matte or glossy ceramic glaze was sprayed onto the exterior of the plain white glass bowl and baked at extreme temperatures to fuse it to the surface. The Purpose: These bright colors brought inexpensive, morale-boosting pops of cheer into mid-century kitchens. They were distributed in mixed rainbow "Carnivalware" or "Kitchen Aids" nesting sets so homemakers could mix and match colors while baking. CALLOUT bowl jas flea bites in some areas of the paint.
