The Manufacturer: Fenton Art Glass Company (based in Williamstown, West Virginia) was the premier producer of American carnival and iridescent glass throughout the 20th century. The Design: This piece consists of two nested components. The bottom candle cup features the intricate embossed "Diamond Point" or "Diamond Lace" crosshatched texture. The smooth top dome features a fiery, metallic marigold iridescent finish (carnival glass) adorned with hand-painted white and pink wild roses. The Function: Originally designed in the late 19th century to safely hold a small candle or "fairy light" in drafty Victorian bedrooms, Fenton successfully revived this form in the 1970s and 1980s as highly popular decorative collectors' items. Hand painted by Stacy Allman, one of Fenton Art Glass Company's highly regarded skilled studio painters.
