Vintage German BMF (Bayerische Metallwarenfabrik) decorative pewter plate featuring an ornate raised floral and scroll border with a colorful ceramic/porcelain center insert. The center depicts a jovial gentleman raising a beer beside a barrel marked “1827,” surrounded by the humorous German drinking proverb: “Die Liebe ist der Güter höchstes nicht; Der Übel größtes aber ist der Durst.” The saying roughly translates to: “Love is not the highest of blessings, but the greatest of evils is thirst.” Vintage condition with age-appropriate patina, oxidation, surface scratching and wear. The pewter plate has a slight bend/warping, visible when viewed from the side; it does not sit completely flat. The ceramic center insert shows light age-related wear. Please review all photos closely, particularly the side-profile photo showing the bend, as they are part of the condition description.
