R. D. Blackmore’s Lorna Doone is one of the enduring classics of English historical romance, set amid the rugged landscape of Exmoor and centered on the celebrated story of John Ridd and Lorna Doone. This 1943 Dodd, Mead edition has a particularly attractive period presentation, with photographic illustrations of “Doone Country” and an introductory biographical sketch of Blackmore by Basil Davenport. The red pictorial cloth binding, mounted cover portrait, and wartime publication date give this copy plenty of vintage shelf appeal. It is a nice reading or display copy for collectors of classic literature, historical fiction, or older illustrated editions of Lorna Doone.
