The plot follows seven Harvard graduate students from various biological disciplines who are recruited by Nanigen MicroTechnologies, a mysterious biotech firm, to work at its Hawaii facility. After one student uncovers a murder cover-up involving ultra-fine cuts and tiny bladed robots, the CEO Vin Drake shrinks the entire group to inches tall and abandons them in the Oahu rainforest. Stripped of their full-sized advantages, the students must use their scientific knowledge to survive predatory insects, microbes, and environmental hazards while being hunted by Drake’s own miniature operatives. The novel explores themes of scientific responsibility, the fragility of human life, and the deadly beauty of the microscopic ecosystem.
