Following the Second World War, Japan's manufacturing sector rapidly rebuilt, becoming a major exporter of affordable and intricately crafted costume jewelry. Many pieces featured components like molded glass faux pearls and shimmering aurora borealis crystals assembled by hand into elaborate multi-strand designs. These imported sets were distributed widely through department stores and mail-order catalogs in Western markets during the 1950s and 1960s. Items stamped or marked 'Japan' are prized by collectors today for their durable craftsmanship and the vibrant, often unique color palettes characteristic of mid-century Asian export jewelry.
