An American answer to English green transferware: a long celery or relish tray with a lace-like border of stylised acanthus and pendant motifs in soft teal green, with a scalloped edge and a bright white well. A brilliant little companion to any green tablescape, and it holds a row of deviled eggs like it was born for it. | SPECS: Approx 9.75 in by 4 in rectangular tray, white semi-vitreous china with green underglaze transfer border. Backstamp: K.T.&K. / CHINA (printed in red-brown). | HISTORY: Knowles, Taylor & Knowles of East Liverpool, Ohio, was the largest pottery in the United States at the turn of the twentieth century and the maker of the celebrated Lotus Ware porcelain. The plain K.T.&K. CHINA stamp belongs to their semi-vitreous dinnerware of the early 1900s through the 1920s, when the firm was supplying half of America with sturdy, pretty tableware. | CONDITION: Clean and glossy. A small glaze pop on the underside and light kiln grit at the foot rim, both from manufacture.
