Before Benjamin Disraeli became Prime Minister of Britain, he created the fiercely ambitious Vivian Grey. The young protagonist attempts to rise through society by manipulating influential men and assembling a political faction around the Marquess of Carabas, only to discover how quickly schemes, alliances, and reputations can collapse. Part political satire and part society novel, the book offers a fascinating glimpse of the world that helped shape Disraeli himself. This 1906 Century Co. edition appears in The English Comédie Humaine series and includes an illustrated frontispiece.
