N was originally an orphan boy who lived in the woods, accompanied by only his Pokémon friends. Living this way allowed him to become able to understand what Pokémon are saying. Ghetsis, seeing the innocence within N, adopted him and started educating him in preparation for making him the king of Team Plasma.
