Vintage Oaxacan Folk Art Wood Carving Sculpture by Original Master carver Coindo Melchor Gomez. It features a Mermaid and her baby, measures 10.5" by 8" and is signed on the bottom. It has a break on the base, however it looks as if it was done at the studio as the blue colored paint in the back goes over the crack. There is also a crack on one arm which also looks like it happened at the studio as the back of the arm shows no crack and paint over it. Two minor chips at the end of the large mermaid tail. A similar carving of his appears in the book "Oaxacan Woodcarving the Magic in the Trees" by Shepard Barbash. This is your chance to own an important piece of Oaxacan Woodcarving history by an Original Master. His works are scarce and rarely appear for sale. Please look closely at the photos.
