Product Details

Antique plates. The backstamp features a clear circular mark reading "John Maddock & Sons" around the top, "England" in the center, and "Royal Vitreous" around the bottom, all topped by an imperial crown. Directly beneath the circular logo is the pattern name, VIRGINIA. Production Date & Mark DetailsEstimated Date Range: 1896 – 1906The "England" Indicator: The word "England" was added to John Maddock & Sons' backstamps starting around 1896 to comply with international trade laws (specifically the U.S. McKinley Tariff Act). The "Ltd" Cutoff: In 1906, the company officially incorporated and added "Ltd." to their pottery stamps. Because your plates only state "John Maddock & Sons" without the "Ltd", they can be precisely dated to that ten-year window at the turn of the 20th century.Material: Royal Vitreous was a proprietary marketing name used by Maddock for their high-quality, durable ironstone and semi-porcelain dinnerware Has crazing, a few chips and hairline crack in one of them
