About the Seller
Why “Fat Camp Fashion”? At Fat Camp Fashion, we believe in reclaiming the word fat, not as an insult, but as a powerful, neutral, and unapologetic descriptor. For generations, “fat” has been used to shame, exclude, and police bodies. We’re here to take that power back. The name is intentionally bold. “Fat Camp” has historically been tied to punishment, erasure, and the idea that bodies need fixing. We’re flipping that narrative entirely. This is not about changing bodies, it’s about celebrating them. It’s about style, self-expression, and showing up exactly as you are. While this idea began with the intention to focus only on plus-size clothing, a space that is still deeply underserved, we decided to provide clothing for all sizes, because true body liberation doesn’t stop at a single size range or identity and to exclude others in the name of inclusivity didn’t feel aligned with our values. Another core part of our mission is care for the planet. The fashion industry produces an astonishing amount of waste. Globally, tens of millions of tons of clothes and textiles end up in landfills each year, where they often take decades or longer to break down. In the United States alone, roughly 11 million tons of textile waste go to landfill annually, with most clothing discarded after just a few wears. For this reason, we exclusively source our rescued collection secondhand to keep clothes in use and out of the landfill, extending their life and reducing the environmental impact of fashion. Choosing secondhand is a simple but powerful way to lessen waste, conserve resources, and build a more sustainable wardrobe. We understand that the name may feel uncomfortable for some, and we honor that. Our hope is that it sparks reflection, conversation, and maybe even healing. Fat isn’t a bad word. It’s just a word, and we’re choosing to use it with intention, pride, and care; for people and the planet. Thank you for being here. 🩵🧡
