Détails du produit

Five Franc supplemental currency issued in France after the Normandy Invasion. The issuing of currency in France for the Normandy Invasion was the subject of considerable controversy. The French representatives in London refused to allow the money to be called occupation currency. Instead, it was decided to call it supplemental currency - supplemental to the notes of the Banque of France which continued to issue notes during the war Gen. DeGaulle objected to the design of the notes and to the military as being the issuing authority. it was the subject of a considerable amount of communication between Roosevelt and Churchill. The issue was unresolved on June 6 and the US and Britain went forward with using the currency without DeGaulle's endorsement. With one exception, the currency was well-received by the newly liberated French citizens.
