Ancient Egyptian Carved Wood Mummy Mask Third Intermediate Period, ca. 1070–664 BCE Height: 9 3/4 in (24.8 cm) A finely carved wooden mummy mask with a serene, idealized expression, featuring almond-shaped eyes outlined in black pigment, a straight nose, and a subtle closed-mouth smile. Traces of original polychromy remain, including yellow ochre tones and black detailing. The figure wears a stylized wig, and the reverse shows a hollowed interior with visible wood grain and ancient tool marks. Surface shows age-related wear including pigment loss, cracking, and encrustation consistent with burial and handling. Provenance: Private Collection, Chicago, Illinois; acquired 1986 on the London art market (Pimlico Road).
