Vintage authentic Navajo sand painting set by artist R. Watchman (Diné), based out of Sheep Springs, New Mexico. This is a rare, large matching pair featuring two distinct figures: the Hoop Dancer and the War Dancer. Both are made with natural ground colored rocks and sand on solid particle board panels. Size: 16" x 16" each (Note: There is a slight manufacturing height variation between the two hand-cut panels). Handwritten Details on Back: Painting 1: "Hoop-Dancer / Sands are natural / Colored rocks (grinded) / R. Watchman / Box 1508 / Sheep Springs N.M." Painting 2: "War-Dancer / Sands are natural / Colored rocks (grinded) / R. Watchman / Box 1508 / Sheep Springs N.M." The "Hoop-Dancer" panel shows a chip/crush wear on one back corner and the hanging wire has come loose on one side due to a pulled nail (board remains solid, just needs a small replacement nail/brad to re-secure the wire loop).
