Male Otopharynx tetrastigma are popular, moderately-sized Lake Malawi haplochromine cichlids reaching 16–17 cm ($6.3$–$6.7$ inches). Known for their brilliant metallic blue and turquoise coloration with red markings, they are more colorful and larger than females, which are generally silvery. Males are known for being relatively peaceful but territorial during breeding.
