Oreodont Upper Jaw Fossil – Badlands, North Dakota Authentic Oreodont upper jaw fossil from the Badlands of North Dakota. The fossil remains partially embedded in its natural matrix, with the teeth and eye orbits clearly visible. It measures approximately 5.5" long, 5" wide, and 2.5" tall. Oreodonts were extinct herbivorous mammals that lived in North America during the Oligocene and Miocene epochs, roughly 40 to 5 million years ago. Although they had a pig-like appearance, they were members of an extinct group of even-toed hoofed mammals more closely related to camels. Their teeth were adapted for eating vegetation, and their fossils are among the most recognizable finds from the Badlands region. The specimen is in good overall condition with natural fossilization and matrix intact. Please review the photos for the best representation of its condition.
