Strictly limited to 6,500 sets The 2004 Royal Australian Mint Six-Coin Proof Set (often themed "Come Alive") is highly notable among collectors for being the first Australian year set to feature a holographic coin. The set marked the 20th anniversary of the $1 coin, rendering Stuart Devlin's classic "Mob of Kangaroos" design in a dynamic, light-reflecting hologram. For the first time since 1990, all six denominations in the set returned to their traditional, standard circulating reverse designs. Key Specifications & Variations The 2004 proof sets were released in two primary compositions. When purchasing either version, collectors should note that the standard base-metal coins from this year are highly prone to peripheral toning or clouding. This natural oxidation was caused by chemical interactions from the hologram bonding process during production.
