Beautiful matching pair of Vintage Mid Century 3D-effect narrative silhouette pictures featuring romantic 18th-century inspired courting scenes beneath original convex bubble glass. The 4" x 6" companion pieces depict an elegantly dressed gentleman and lady in two different narrative scenes. One shows the formal couple strolling together along a scenic waterfront park or estate, while the other captures a playful greeting near a stone village bridge. Their elaborate gowns, formal coats, breeches and period accessories create a wonderful old-world romantic appearance. The construction is especially interesting. The crisp black silhouettes are reverse-painted directly onto the inner surface of the curved convex bubble glass, while a separate softly colored scenic print is positioned behind them. This layered technique creates a wonderful three-dimensional shadowbox effect, with the dark figures appearing to float in front of the pastel landscape. The backgrounds depict picturesque European country estates, trees, water, bridges and rolling landscapes in muted vintage pastel tones, providing a beautiful contrast to the highly detailed black silhouettes. Both retain their original thin brass-gold tone metal frames with top hanging loops and were clearly designed as matching companion artwork. Perfect for collectors of reverse painted glass, convex bubble glass, silhouette art, 18th Century style decor, courting couples, Victorian Revival, Colonial Revival, Rococo Revival, romantic wall art, European landscape art, vintage companion pictures, Mid Century wall decor and small gallery wall art.
