Charming antique-style fashion illustration depicting two women in elaborate mid-19th-century dresses, one wearing a tiered ruffled gown and bonnet and the other a striped gown with delicate yellow hand-coloring. The image has the look of a Victorian fashion plate/engraving, the type published in women’s fashion periodicals during the mid-1800s. Godey’s Lady’s Book, for example, published engraved, hand-colored fashion plates showing contemporary women’s clothing; museum collections document very similar examples from the 1850s.
