The 'Liberty Blue' ironstone transferware collection was produced in Staffordshire, England, by Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Ltd. specifically for the United States Bicentennial celebrations in 1976. Each piece in the series featured a different historical colonial American scene rendered in a classic blue-and-white transfer print, drawing inspiration from traditional 19th-century Staffordshire pottery. Marketed heavily through department stores, grocery store promotions, and commemorative distributors throughout the mid-1970s, these sets were bought by millions of American households. Although produced in massive quantities to meet bicentennial demand, they remain popular today among collectors of commemorative Americana and vintage transferware.
