Détails du produit
A 1941 Heritage Press edition of Æsop’s Fables, featuring a fresh retelling by Munro Leaf (celebrated author of The Story of Ferdinand) with charming pen-and-ink illustrations by Robert Lawson. The book is handsomely designed by George Hornby, set in Caslon type, and printed by the Stratford Press with binding by Russell-Rutter a well-crafted example of the Heritage Press’s mid-century illustrated classics. Beautiful decorative endpapers depict a menagerie of fable animals (fox, lion, donkey, peacock, sheep, tortoise, and more) intertwined with oak-leaf scrollwork. Each fable closes with Leaf’s signature “The Point” a plain-spoken moral, true to his style from Ferdinand. This copy carries a “From the Pingree Library” bookplate, suggesting prior institutional or private library provenance. Condition Disclosure: -Cloth boards show light soiling/smudging and a few small stains on the front cover (visible in photos), plus a faint water-type mark near the top edge.
