(Rochester, NY) During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these decorative, handled baskets served as the ultimate centerpiece on elegant dining tables. They were used to serve small cakes, pastries, petit fours, or fresh fruit. Because they were the quintessential, high-end wedding gift of the Victorian era, they earned the historical nickname "bride's baskets."
