A small inspirational/motivational gift book, "Sand for the Rails," written by J. Melvin Gibby with illustrations by Joseph Gibby, first copyrighted 1944, this a second edition from 1946, printed and bound by Stevens & Wallis in Salt Lake City. Uses a locomotive-and-sand metaphor as the framing device for short essays and verse on overcoming life's difficulties. The front endpaper is inscribed in period handwriting "W.W. Carlson / T.W. Carlson Sr.," giving it some family-provenance interest.
