This small ornate footed serving tray measures 7" across x .5" tall. The blue sticker on the back states, "A product of Japan / Tarnished Protected." Trays of this area era were treated with a small thin protective lacquer coat & is not to be polished. This tray features a very ornate embossed design with scalloped edge and three feet. On the back is stamped with a lion head, a crest shield, and another lion head. This is called "Pseudo Hallmark" which is to give it a British antique look. This small footed tray is historically called a salver or waiter serving tray. Traditionally, in the late 19th to the 20th century, a footed tray was a symbol of etiquette & hospitality, used for serving a single drink by a servant, or when visitors arrived at a home, a servant would present a salver at the front of the door & guests would place their printed calling cards on the tray. Of course today, we use the small trays as risers or trinket trays. One small area of tarnish consistent with age.
