Beautiful mid-1800s cased ambrotype featuring a formally posed man and woman, likely a married couple. Estimated circa 1855–1865. Portrait is housed in an ornate period case with embossed floral exterior, decorative brass mat/preserver and deep green velvet interior. The gentleman wears distinctive period facial hair, patterned bow tie, & haunting eyes-while the woman wears a brooch at her collar. A wonderfully solemn early photographic portrait. Case and image show age-related wear, surface marks, spotting, finish loss and edge wear as pictured. Clasps are present. A beautiful piece of early photographic and Victorian history.
