A teal-green beauty for the shelf. Octagonal teapot with a stepped lid and floral finial, printed all over in soft green: a castle-and-lake scene with a shepherd and his flock on each face, a trellis-and-rose band at the shoulder, paisley scrolls at the corners and a fretwork band at the foot. Lid fits and the strainer is intact. Cracked, so display only. | SPECS: Approx 10 in handle to spout, approx 6.5 in tall to the finial. Maker: unmarked Staffordshire, c.1840s-1860s by style. Pattern: castle and shepherd scene with trellis border, unnamed. | HISTORY: Green was the third colour of the Romantic transferware era after blue and pink, and green teapots of this octagonal shape were the everyday luxury of a Victorian parlour.
