Dogtooth Calcite is a variety of Calcite that forms as multiple scalenohedral crystals. Dogtooth Calcite is often referred to as Dog-toothed Spar. This very large display specimen weighs 3 pounds 14 ounces, almost 4 pounds. This amazing piece stands over 2" inches deep, laying down. is 6 1/2" wide and 6" inches long. Dogtooth calcite can be found in open spaces or in caves, geodes and veins. It consists of large calcite crystals thought to resemble dogs' teeth due to the 'pointed' crystal habit. Dolomite forms white, pink or tan crystals. It is formed in hydrothermal veins and frequently in cavities of limestone and marble.
