🚨 Alerting all baseball historians 🚨Here’s a chance to own a museum piece! Offered is an original loose-leaf wood engraving from Harper’s Weekly, dated September 12, 1874, titled: “The American Base-Ball Players in England — Match Between the Red Stockings and the Athletics.” This engraving documents the 1874 overseas tour of American professional baseball teams, one of the earliest attempts to introduce baseball internationally. The Boston Red Stockings and the Athletics are shown in live game action at Prince’s Ground, Brompton, England. This is a rare and historically important piece of history. Loose leaf, all margins intact and untrimmed Clear plate mark visible on all sides Caption and date fully legible Light, even age toning consistent with period paper No repairs, backing, or restoration Small tear at top and corners from original mounting. I grew up playing baseball and collecting cards with my dad. Some of my best childhood memories were learning about the sport’s legends and the history of the game from him as we would leaf through his sets from the 70’s. I’ve continued collecting off and on throughout my life and would like to enable others to share in the nostalgia, thrill, and excitement of the hobby. Looking forward to getting to know other enthusiasts!
