Grosse Pointe (South) High School Blue Devils varsity letterman sweater from the 1940s. Made by Kirchler Knitting Mills, prior to the creation of Detroit Knitting Mills by Ernest Frederick Kirchler. A Detroiter for 40 years, Mr. Kirchler lived at 13236 E. Jefferson. He was a native of Germany. Mr Kirchler organized the Detroit Knitting Mills in 1915 and the firm which bears his name in 1931. He retired in 1946. Sweater belonged to Gordon Renwick Maitland, Jr.
