vintage 1928 hardcover edition of The Hiawatha Primer by Florence Holbrook, published by Houghton Mifflin Co. and printed at The Riverside Press. Based on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous poem, this antique school textbook features a distinctive blue cloth binding with sharp, black-stamped text and illustrations on both the cover and spine. The interior text utilizes a unique historic vertical penmanship script and is accompanied by full-spread silhouette endpapers by artist Ruth Sutherland alongside full-page color illustrations. The book shows light, uniform page tanning and minor vintage fraying at the spine tips, but the binding remains solid, straight, and structurally intact. Adding a layer of personal history, the front endpapers feature charming childhood ownership inscriptions from a "Bobby Merrick" of Kansas City, Missouri, dated 1932.
