During and immediately following World War II, Hazel-Atlas began aggressively marketing "fired-on" ceramic color glazes onto their white Platonite glass bodies. The Process: A bright matte or glossy ceramic glaze was sprayed onto the exterior of the plain white glass bowl and baked at extreme temperatures to fuse it to the surface. The Purpose: These bright colors brought inexpensive, morale-boosting pops of cheer into mid-century kitchens.
