商品の詳細

A remarkable 19th-century Victorian portrait of a formally posed child in an elaborate dress, seated in a studio chair. The image appears to be a hand-enhanced photographic portrait/crayon photographic enlargement, with extensive visible handwork and retouching. The ornate, deeply aged wooden frame features a decorative mat and gold-toned oval surround. The reverse is especially unusual: reverse glazing preserves a large piece of original 19th-century religious and memorial printed ephemera, including devotional poetry, mourning verses, and “Shall We Know Each Other There?” Also present is “Rest” by Susan Archer Talley and a historical reference to Mary B. Crocker, wife of missionary William G. Crocker. The child’s identity is unknown, and I am not representing this as definitively post-mortem. Approx. 12¼” W × 14” H; 4 lbs. 5 oz. Original, unrestored condition. Reverse glass has a broken/missing section.
