A clever and imaginative Sherlock Holmes pastiche that presents itself as a newly recovered memoir by Dr. John H. Watson. Nicholas Meyer sends Holmes into one of his most unusual cases, bringing him together with Sigmund Freud in a story that mixes mystery, psychology, and classic Holmes atmosphere. The novel became one of the best-known modern Holmes continuations and was later adapted into a 1976 film.
