Softcover ©1987 - Genre: Christian biography / nonfiction (biography, faith, missions). About: A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael (1987) by Elisabeth Elliot is the biography of Amy Carmichael, an Irish missionary who spent 53 years in south India without furlough. Known as "Amma" (mother), she founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a refuge that rescued and raised children — especially girls — who were orphaned, unwanted, or sold into temple prostitution. The book traces her strict Irish Presbyterian upbringing, her call to the mission field, her deep and unwavering faith, and her lifelong sacrificial service, using her motto that "missionary life is simply a chance to die" to frame her devotion to Christ.
