Specs | A large oval stoneware platter in brown transferware, the Castle Scenery pattern: a central vignette of ruined castle arches and figures, framed by a border of repeating landscape cartouches. Approx. 16 in. x 13 in. (confirm on hand). Backstamp: Furnivals (confirm exact mark and Ltd wording on hand). | History | Furnivals of Cobridge (Ltd from 1890) was one of the great Edwardian producers of romantic transferware for the export table, and Castle Scenery is their sepia-brown take on the picturesque-ruin tradition that had been in fashion since the 1820s. A 16 in. platter is the meat-platter size, the anchor of a Sunday tablescape.
