Premise / Plot Summary (Without Major Spoilers) Mallory “Mouse” Dodge has been through a lot: • She spent part of her childhood in an abusive foster home, alongside a boy named Rider Stark who protected her. During that time she was traumatized and learned to cope by staying silent and hiding her voice.  • After being badly burned in an incident (related to that foster situation), she is adopted by a caring couple and homeschooled for years. She’s still dealing with PTSD, social anxiety, etc.  • As she’s approaching the end of high school and preparing for college, her adoptive parents encourage her to attend public school for her senior year so she can more fully integrate and find her voice.  • On her first day back in public school, Mouse is surprised to see Rider again — the boy who used to look out for her.
