The item is a 3×LP box set of “Duke Ellington — At Fargo, 1940 Live” — originally released in 1978 by Book-of-the-Month Records. The front cover text reads “DUKE ELLINGTON / At Fargo, 1940 / LIVE.” The inside/backs show Book-of-the-Month Records (“BOMR”). The LP label (photo) shows “Book-of-the-Month Records” and “Mono / 30-5622-A / Side 1” etc. On discographies, this release is a licensed edition of a live performance recorded November 7, 1940 at the Crystal Ballroom, Fargo, North Dakota. The original recording was done by Jack Towers and Richard Burris (approved by Ellington) on portable disc equipment; the 1978 release is a remastering from Towers’ master reproduction. Critically, At Fargo, 1940 Live is regarded as a major live jazz recording — in 1980 it won the Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album.
