Quarto 11.75" × 9", 1005 pages, A.O.P. Nicholson, Washington. Includes copy of Joseph Henry’s Smithsonian letter to Capt. A.A. Humphreys. Half-leather over marbled boards. Provenance note on front endpaper: “From Hon. Horace Maynard” (Tennessee congressman, Abolitionist, later U.S. Postmaster General). Important 19th-c. American science & railroad exploration reference. Rubbing and foxing noted; rear hinge cracked with cords visible; solid text block. No rips or tears to pages noted. Book has a slight bend to it.
