Notes: Hadrian was Roman emperor from 117 to 138. He was a member of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty. He broke with the expansionist policies of his predecessors to secure the Roman Empire within its existing borders. He commissioned the construction of Hadrian's Wall as a means of preventing incursions into roman territory by the Caledonians. This wall still stands today.
