Product Details

The no-date (circa 1930) Imperial Dragon Brass Gaming Token or Counter is an uncirculated historical coin from the Empire period of China. This unique token features an obverse design of an Imperial dragon coiled around a fiery pearl with six clouds around, and a reverse with Chinese ideogram surrounded by four characters. The design on the reverse includes the central character "壽" (Shòu), which represents longevity. The other characters surrounding it are 長命富貴 (cháng mìng fù guì) meaning "long life, wealth, and honor". Made of brass and originating from China, this gaming token or amulet reflects the craftsmanship and cultural significance of the era. Referenced in the second supplement (1973) of American Game Countersby Rulau and Fuld, this type is listed under the miscellany section with an unknown American origin. The design obviously channels that of the late Qing dynasty, likely pointing to a date of manufacture within the few decades following the end of the empire.
