Important world / jazz-funk, considered by many to be in that ‘spiritual jazz’ class. Which I would agree with, it can elevate your spirits, calm you down, as if theres a presence there (which there is, in the music). But the sonics aren’t everything. Something is transmitted between the artist and listener that is so powerful, more powerful than in just about any other music I’ve listened to. There’s a reason this genre and the musicians who play within this genre are super niche and occupy their own lane. It’s one of those “only for those who understand” type of offering. This is Garnetts 4th; maybe 3rd Muse Records release, and it might be his most experimental. You’ll hear some elements of free jazz, funky fusion, guitars shredding, and don’t forget the serenades. The Panamanian sax God (Garnett) passed around a decade ago but touched so many people in the jazz scene, who all really looked up to him. It seems well deserved, and IS beautiful.
