Lucius Julius Aurelius Septimius Vaballathus vaballathus- Wahb Allāt, Gift of Allāt'; Emperor of the Palmyrene empire- a Roman breakaway state based out of Syria during the Crises of the Third century. As he was 8 when he was crowned, his mother Zenobia functioned as his regent, She led a revolt against the Roman Empire which quickly grew and added more territory of some the empires richest Asian provinces. While nominally Roman this empire had a degree of autonomy and created coinage showing emperor Aurelian with a radiate crown as the more powerful king, while the laureate on Vaballathus signified his position as junior partner in the relationship. While Aurelian led a series of regional wars to rebuild the shattered empire, particularly against the Gallic empire (emperor Tetricus) the Palmyrenes expanded invading Roman Egypt and occupying some areas of Roman Anatolia. In 272 future Emperor Probus retook Egypt while Emperor Aurelian simultaneously crossed the Bosporus from Europe and travelled back down through Anatolia retaking Roman cities and destroying every one that resisted. After defeating the Palmyrene army at the battles of Immae and Emesa near their capital of Antioch and a siege of Palmyra itself he took Zenobia and Vaballathus captive. Their fates after are unknown to history. Palmyra once a gem in one of the wealthiest provinces of the Roman Empire withered, and even today is littered with ruins and never recovered.
