The first Lion Daalder, or Lion Dollar, was struck in Holland in 1575. They were pressed in .750 fine silver and mostly used for trade and export. The obverse of the coin features a knight standing behind a rampant lion with the words "MO. ARG. PRO. CO NFOE. BEL." (New Silver Coins of the Belgian Confederation) inscribed around it. The reverse of the coin shows a heraldic lion with the words "CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR" (Confidence in the Lord is not moved) around it.
