Product Details

The inscription "Oaxaca" ties the pitcher to a specific region of Mexico and was used to differentiate the piece from other regions that used the same coloration or similar pottery styles. This is a piece of loza verde (green-glazed pottery), a traditional folk art style specifically from the village of Santa María Atzompa in Oaxaca, Mexico. While decorative, these pitchers were traditionally used for serving local beverages like mezcal or hot chocolate. There is some chipping in the glaze on the top rim of the pitcher as shown. **Warning** The deep, glossy green color was traditionally achieved using a lead monoxide glaze. Because of this, vintage pieces like this are generally recommended for display only.
